If you’re getting this error:

Could not obtain a license for SolidWorks Standard. License error: -8,544,0

Don’t worry — this issue is very common and usually caused by a license server problem, firewall, or SolidNetWork License Manager not working properly.

Let’s go step-by-step to fix it 🔧

🔍 What Does Error (-8,544,0) Mean?

This error typically means:

  • Your computer can’t connect to the license server
  • Or the license service is not running
  • Or the firewall/antivirus is blocking communication

✅ Step-by-Step Fix

🔁 1. Restart the SolidNetWork License Manager (SNL)

If you’re using a network license:

  1. Press Windows + R
    Type: CopyEditservices.msc
  2. Find SolidWorks FlexNet License Manager (or similar)
  3. Right-click → Restart

Then try launching SolidWorks again.

📡 2. Check Server Connection (for Network Licenses)

Make sure your client machine can ping the license server.

  • Press Windows + R, type: cmd
  • Type: nginxCopyEditping YourLicenseServerName

If it doesn’t respond, it’s a network issue. Contact your admin or check LAN/Wi-Fi settings.

🔥 3. Allow SolidWorks Through Firewall

  1. Open Windows Security > Firewall & Network Protection
  2. Click Allow an app through firewall
  3. Ensure these are allowed:
    • sw_d.exe
    • lmgrd.exe
    • swlicserv.exe

✅ Also allow TCP ports 25734 and 25735

💽 4. Re-Activate the License Manager (on Server)

If you’re the admin or using a local setup:

  1. Go to SolidNetWork License Manager > Server Admin
  2. Click Modify → choose Activate/Reactivate
  3. Follow the wizard & re-activate your license

Then restart the license manager service.

🔌 5. Try Client-side Workaround

If you’re using SolidWorks on a standalone license, but still seeing this error:

  1. Go to: makefileCopyEditC:\ProgramData\FLEXnet
  2. Delete all files starting with SW_D or SW_D_...
    (This resets the license cache)
  3. Relaunch SolidWorks — it will re-request the license.

🧯 Still Getting Errors?

You may need to:

  • Reinstall SolidWorks License Manager
  • Re-activate your serial key
  • Check for corrupted FLEXnet services
